HVAC Information For Homeowners

Over the past couple of winters, I’ve needed to schedule repairs for my furnace! Although the concerns have been fairly minor, the cost has started to add up; I’m worried that the boiler is going to fail during blizzard conditions, when the outside temperature is in the downside digits, plus be too expensive to fix, since the boiler is over fifteen years old, I think it’s time to update it, the biweekly utility bills have gotten steadily higher, plus I’m not totally pleased with comfort. I’m suspicious that the furnace is to blame for the frequent need to dust plus vacuum as well as concerns with headaches, coughing plus sneezing. I’ve been looking into the boilers currently on the market. Although the top-of-the-line systems are plenty extravagant, they offer up to 98% AFUE ratings. These advanced units feature flexible-speed technology, allowing automatic adjustment of output to match the needs of the home, then by running at lower capacity, the furnace trims running costs, maintains more consistent comfort plus does a better task of filtering out contaminants. There are also fewer concerns with inadequate humidity, and modern boilers are much quieter, safer plus more environmentally friendly. Rather than be left with no heat plus in a rush to get a new heater installed, I plan to schedule updatement over the summer. I’ve already spoken with a local HVAC contractor plus arranged an appointment for a free estimate. I want to find out more about options such as zone control. I am willing to spend more to minimize carbon footprint plus biweekly expenses.

It’s funny how we can end up doing things as adults that were dreams when we were kids. For me, I grew up in circumstances that weren’t all that good so I had plenty of dreams that had to wait to be fulfilled, then my mom was a single mother plus my friend and I were quite poor. The home my friend and I lived in didn’t even have a new central air conditioner. Instead, there was a wood stove for heating plus fans for cooling in the summer. I didn’t prefer a/c until after I graduated school, even though my dorm room didn’t have central air. There was a large boiler in that dorm building which provided intense radiant heating all winter. There would be so much heating coming from the radiators that we’d have to crack a window! No, my first a/c was inside the home I had after school. And that was a heat pump that had seen better afternoons. Once I got cemented in my job plus became a homeowner, I made sure that I had some good quality heating and air. But I also started making some other childhood dreams come true. It may sound weird, butI ended up building a treehouse. This is something I had always wanted but never had. There were these perfect oak trees on my property that would be the perfect base for a cool tree house. I love this treehouse. I even had a ductless heat pump installed so I have air conditioning in this dream home! I;m sure this sounds silly, but it’s way better than a man cave to me.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be, but I’m not all that into flying commercially any longer.

When it was comfortable, and generally more reliable, I loved flying.

But for the last couple of decades, flying has been anything but enjoyable, and so I didn’t miss it when I was stuck at home inside with central air during the pandemic. Our business shut down our offices with the zone controlled HVAC plus sent us home to work. Also, I was grounded plus had to crank the quality heating plus air of my automobile in order to get out plus do business with our clients. While driving around to clients took a bit more effort, it absolutely was pleasurable plus I didn’t hate it. So that’s why I chose to drive to meet with clients! I might run into heavy traffic but my trips are never suddenly canceled. And the air conditioning in my car is always good; That’s not true for most of the flights I’ve been on, and unfortunately, that characteristic of flying has continued. The first thing I felt when I got back on commercial airplanes was a lack of quality heating plus air. I just felt packed in with not enough air conditioning, but I was happy to know that there were HEPA filters on the plane. At least that was a replacement. HEPA filters detach more than 99-percent of all airborne contaminants. At least the air quality of my flight had improved since I last boarded a flight for business.

I’ve enjoyed a nice career, and I’m so glad that I had the occasion to sort of ride this job for as long as I did. Working in the resort world has been quite a ride indeed. In fact, this is the first time in 25 years that I’ve been inside the commercial Heating & Air Conditioning of an official office. For years, I’ve worked out of tiny spaces that were carved out for work space. Hotels and resorts are notorious for never actually having official offices. Although there are general managers and sales guys that enjoyed a/c from commercial Heating & Air Conditioning inside all day. For me, I was outside of the a/c most of the time. I have always been a hands-on manager. Primarily, our focus was the outside of the hotels. Whether that was pizzerias, pools, recreation programs or special events, I was outside laboring them. So it actually is quite odd to be inside the commercial HVAC of an office! Recently, I was promoted to run a new department in our corporate offices. It’s absolutely a change given what I have been doing for the last 25 years. Yet, I do appreciate the proper schedule and having a nice office is cool too. There is even a zone-controlled HVAC here. I have a control component that is right outside our office door. It’s a far cry from running around in subtropical temperatures trying to take care of our guests. But again, I’m looking forward to the new challenges. And for me, the a/c sure doesn’t hurt.

I don’t like getting stuck in some closed places with the sort of indoor air that’s basically assaulting our senses.

This is just a single of the most unattractive scenarios.

But it never fails that I find myself stuck in a single of these sites. And it doesn’t matter whether I’m inside the central air of a house or the commercial Heating & Air Conditioning of business. Stinky indoor air is just waiting around the corner to punch you in the face. And there actually isn’t all that much a person can do in those situations, but, grin and bear it. I’d actually enjoy it if I had the courage to send those sites with the terrible indoor air conditions a note about air purification. For sure, I’m going to continue to run into sites where the HVAC component is not helping wash the air. But at our house, the component is actively cleaning the air. And I’m not just referring to the HEPA filter either. While we do use this sort of air filter for the equipment, I’m talking about a category of air cleaner that works inside the unit. This is the category of air cleaner that uses ultraviolet light to eradicate all airborne contaminants from the air. Thankfully, this results in perfect indoor air conditions – and never smelly, obnoxious indoor air. The whole home air purification plan is the real deal! This thing is the luxury SUV of the Heating & Air Conditioning equipment world. For sure, it takes a bit of an investment. But isn’t our health and well-being worth spending a bit more? For us, the answer has been yes, yes and a hundred times yes!

I’m a strange person this year.

I haven’t felt this good since I was in our twenties.

There is no doubt that feeling good comes with health and wellness. The past year, I have spent a lot of time focusing on decreasing our lifestyle. For a couple of decades, I would kneel all day inside the commercial HVAC of the office. I’d eat all day at our desk as a sort of stress reducer. And then, I’d come home to be free of stress inside the central a/c of our home. But the problem was I was going about all wrong. I came home, plopped in our chair. Then, I drank beer, ate whatever I could get delivered to the a/c of our home. That all had to change when I hit our mid forties last year. I was so overweight that I felt gross. And just trying to get out of the a/c to walk several holes was a giant struggle. So I changed our game when it came to our behavior. I don’t kneel all day inside the commercial HVAC of the office any longer. These days, I stand for more than half the time I’m at work. And when I come home to the quality heating and air of this house, I change and get some exercise. Having a ductless heat pump in the basement has been good for me. I don’t have to go to the gym, since I have the equipment and better climate control in our basement. It feels so good to have made the swings that I did as I head into spring much more fit and healthy.

It’s been a long time since I legitimately had a Spring in our step getting out of the car at work. Normally, I tend to kneel inside the car with the a/c running for as long as I can before going inside the building. There have even been a few afternoons during the past year where I barely could get out of the car at all. I don’t guess I was the only one feeling this way either. My wife and I were all sort of irritated inside the commercial HVAC of work. The decline had started several years ago, but this past year was the worst. I nearly quit rather than spend another day inside the a/c of that building. Even the heating and cooling was terrible the last couple of years. It seemed as though the heating and cooling equipment was completely overwhelmed. There was never enough heating in the winter season and the air conditioning wasn’t enough the rest of the year. On top of that, there was a single control component for the entire building. We’re talking more than a hundred cubicles and just a single control unit. But these afternoons, there is a lot to be glad about after a change in leadership. Not only do we have effective leaders who are engaged and motivating us, my wife and I have new commercial Heating & Air Conditioning as well. After the commercial HVAC, we have zone controlled technology with independent control units throughout the work space. It was long overdue, but I’m sure glad that it finally happened. And I actually appreciate feeling good about coming to work each day.

It’s been a while since our partner and I took a vacation alone.

But thanks to recently seeing our last child through school, my associate and I are on our own now.

My wife and I have three kids. We were fortunate enough to be able to raise them inside the central air conditioning of a good family home. That place was perfect for raising a family. So I’m glad that we replaced the HVAC equipment and sold it to a young couple who are also planning on having three kids. My friend and I ended up making a pile of currency at home. For sure, adding the latest in residential HVAC technology added important value to our home. But the timing was also just perfect when it came to the real estate market. I’m still sort of stunned by the amount of money we walked away with from that house. The place was paid for so my associate and I get to benefit from the savings. With that windfall has come some indulgence in things we hadn’t been able to do with kids and jobs. We took a vacation to the beach this fall that was perfect. And my associate and I chose to stay in a vacation rental as opposed to a climate-controlled hotel. And this place had the best HVAC system. There was zone controlled heating and cooling throughout the home, and a smart control unit. It was great, really, and it gave us a preview of the sort of quality heating and air that my associate and I might appreciate in our next site, and currently, my associate and I are renting however plan on buying again soon. Now my associate and I have an actually good plan of what we want when it comes to heating and cooling in our new site.

With all the storms that rolled through our area lately, there were many people displaced from their homes.

They had portable housing set up everywhere there was level and dry property.

Along with the portable housing, they had to have plenty of portable restrooms and portable showers containers. I would have never guessed how many evacuees there would be. Being part of the emergency team in our area, I took on the job of calling around and getting all the portable restrooms and portable shower containers we could get our hands on. Along with all the water, there was the concern over bacteria that could cause contamination and sickness. There were barrels of fresh drinking water, a portable kitchen to keep food on hand for workers and evacuees, and many other things we hadn’t considered. It took less than a week to have everything in place, and we a twenty acre fairground ready to take in entire families of evacuees. We separated families from other families and had enough portable restrooms and portable shower containers, so no one had to wait too long. With the rain still coming down, we didn’t want children waiting outside in the mud, when they needed the restrooms quickly. The children, their mothers, and the elderly were our first concern. When the rain quits coming down, and there is a dry spell in sight, we’ll be helping to get people back into their homes. I have a feeling our portable housing will be in use for several months before all of our guests are back in permanent homes.

I have been working as a commercial roofing contractor for the past 18 years.

I know exactly what it takes to put a roof together from the smallest parts all the way to the blueprints on the table. I am one of the fastest people in the company to provide estimates, so I am often the person that is sent to commercial businesses. I can look at a roof and easily determine what needs to be done to fix the problems. I have probably looked at 10,000 different roofing problems during my career. I went to speak with a commercial roofing repair customer who wanted me to give them an estimate on some repairs at their used car dealership. I wrote down all of the information for that estimate on a piece of paper and I gave a copy of the information to the person in charge at the used car dealership and I kept a copy for myself. A couple of days later, I got a call from the owner of the used car dealership. The guy was furious because he thought that my estimate for the commercial roofing repairs was too expensive. He tried to get me to do the repairs for thousands of dollars less than I quoted, and there was no way that I could come down on the price. He even tried to tell me that someone else was going to do the job for less. I knew that we were going to spend at least a week on the commercial roofing repairs and the labor and materials aren’t cheap. I had to be firm in the estimate that I provided even if the business owner chose a different company.
