Even before I ever considered making an offer on this place, I knew it was going to come with some work. There was simply no way around that. But if it took work to finally get out of apartments with poor heating and cooling, then so be it. So I knew I had plenty of support from friends who have been through all of this before. I guess I’m sort of late to this whole homeownership thing. I’m just now getting my new place in my early forties. Most of my friends have been living in their own air conditioning for more than a decade. But when you’re single and have one income, that makes it tough to own your own air conditioning. But finally, I had enough for a down payment in order to start looking for a house to call my own. The first three or four months were nothing but disappointment. I found nothing in my price range. And if it was in my price range it didn’t fit my lifestyle. When I came into this place, it was like I was at home. I was game for the idea of all the renovations from the very beginning. Once I closed on this house, my first call was to the HVAC company. For sure, the HVAC equipment had to be replaced. It was a central air conditioning system that looked like it had seen better days. Of course it had to go. But it turns out the ductwork wasn’t up to par so we had to make a quick pivot. Instead of resurrecting the old central air conditioning system, we went with ductless heat pumps. This is ended up being just a wonderful choice.
