Forest fires can cause a lot of problems, and in this part of the country, the ground is really dry, so we have been experiencing drought conditions for more than 10 years.
We rarely get any rain at all and that means that the ground is dry and cracked, all of the trees are dead and they light up like kindling when there is a spark, then forest fires happen during the summer months! Sporadically there is a storm that will spark lightning and periodically it is simply the carelessness of a hiker or camper.
There were two forest fires burning at the same time this year and both of the fires were causing bad visibility and exhausting indoor air conditions.
