New heating system for the new gymnasium

This made work easier for us as well as loyal customers of the heating business

One of the ways of keeping warm and active, primarily in the cold months, is by engaging in physical activity. Little can be done outside, especially in school during such months. I am a gym teacher, and getting the students into any physical or sports activity is arduous during the cold season. The entire school has an HVAC and a heat pump installation, but the gym was added years after the school was built. The old gym was turned into a school theater. The HVAC professional fitted the new gym with new heating, which was radiant floor heating powered by an electric heat pump. The entire school HVAC system utilized a zone control system, and other energy-saving tips kept the school energy bill manageable, and the expert from the heating industry had advised. A smart thermostat regulates the temperature control for both systems to help with indoor comfort. Like our home heating systems, even the commercial ones, such as the one we have at school, need heater maintenance yearly or twice a year. The heating technician will be able to determine whether a repair will be required during the service. With everyone’s busy schedule at the school, we had a maintenance plan scheduled with the local heating company. When it was time for servicing, the heating dealer would call the school, and we would agree on the most suitable date. Being in charge of supervising the work helped me learn more about heating. This made work easier for us as well as loyal customers of the heating business. In the meantime, we had to shove the students into the gymnasium during the P.E. lesson.

Heating and air conditioning products

A sister in need of heater maintenance

MaryLou and her husband purchased a five-acre piece of land adjacent to the woods. The only downside to this piece of land is that it is far from civilization. The nearest hospital was miles away, and so was the heating business. The few residents in the area got their whole-home heating and cooling products from heating dealers from the nearby town. It is usually a cumbersome task as the customers have to wait a few days to receive their new heating equipment or get a hold of a heating industry specialist. MaryLou called me the other week complaining they were not enjoying summer because their heat pump wasn’t working as efficiently. Due to my history as an HVAC professional, MaryLou consults me on matters concerning help with indoor comfort. Her husband explained the few issues he could hear or notice in the unit. They had yet to call in for heater maintenance since they moved into the house, which was well over a year. The only thing they had done in terms of HVAC care was to replace the air conditioning filter. MaryLou still needed to call a heating company to care for the rest. Since my family and I was planning to visit them that weekend, MaryLou asked me to carry my toolset so that I could help them fix it. Waiting three more days was a manageable stretch. When we eventually arrived, we set off to the heat pump installation right after lunch. I was relieved that the system required minor repair, and then it was as good as new. I took it upon myself to teach Marylou and her family more about heating so that they could take better care of the system and not entirely depend on the heating technician. I also installed the smart thermostat they had asked me to purchase.

HVAC worker was lost

Bob, the heating plus A/C professional, was just going about his business as he made his way down to the basement to update an air filter.

He had no idea that this official operation would develop into a fun adventure, and that Bob would become lost in the maze of pipes plus ducts.

As he began to remove the old filter, Bob’s attention was abruptly diverted by a mysterious sound coming from behind a nearby wall. Being the curious type, he decided to investigate and, before he knew it, he had stumbled into what could only be described as an heating plus A/C funhouse, which he did not forget about the recent incident he was in. The pipes and ducts twisted plus turned, leading Bob in circles as he tried to find his way out. Every time he thought he had found the right path, he would come face to face with a dead end or a closed door. As the minutes ticked by, Bob’s frustration turned to desperation as he realized he was lost. He tried calling for help, however the only response he got was the echoing sound of his own voice bouncing off the walls. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Bob stumbled upon a door that led him back to the basement. He emerged, hot and disheveled, but relieved to have finally found his way out. Bob made a point of bringing a map plus a compass with him every time he went down to the basement after that. Yet, while he got lost in the heating plus A/C funhouse that day, he never lost his sense of humor about it.

Checking the air quality

Bob the heating plus A/C tech enjoyed tinkering with air filters.

He was the go-to guy but the clowns complained of stuffy noses or the mirror room fogged up, and one day, Bob was on a mission to update the air filter in the funhouse, as fate would have it, he got lost trying to find his buddy who worked in the next room.

Bob walked and walked until he stumbled upon a strange room with neon lights and peculiar sounds. He took a deep breath and realized he had entered a secret room that was not meant for the faint-hearted. But, being the heating plus A/C tech that he was, he could not resist the urge to check the air quality. It was a decision that he would later regret. As he pried open the air filter, out came a swarm of creepy crawly things that even the clowns would shy away from. Bob tried to contain his fear as he swatted the bugs away, even though he was too late. They had already made themselves at home, plus the room was now infested with critters. As he frantically tried to wash up the mess, the clowns, who had followed him, burst into the room. They were dressed in their funniest outfits, even they could not help but laugh at the sight of Bob, covered in bugs. The lost heating and A/C tech looked like a clown himself, with his hair standing on end and his face contorted with disgust, and eventually, Bob plus the clowns managed to get rid of the bugs, not without a lot of screaming plus chaos. From that day on, Bob constantly double-diagnosed his directions plus made sure to avoid any suspicious rooms. The fun house may have been a funny site, the air filter was no laughing matter.

The heat pump was a nightmare

Bob recently changed the air filter on his heat pump. Bob was a bit of a daredevil who enjoyed pushing the limits. Instead of simply adjusting the filter plus calling it a day, he wanted to take it a step further plus see how far he could go. “What if I could transform this heat pump into a monster machine like Christine?” he wondered. Then he began fiddling with the settings, raising the heat plus the fan speed. Yet Bob had no plan he was going to invent the Heat Pump Nightmare. The machine began to shake and rattle as it powered up, and soon it was spewing tepid air plus making odd noises. Bob attempted to flee, but the heat pump was hot on his track. It pursued him through the corridors, through the vents, and out into the parking lot. It was like something out of a horror movie, except instead of a ghost, it was a renegade heat pump intent on vengeance. As Bob stood outside, panting and dripping with sweat, he knew he had to face his creation head-on. So, he summoned all of his courage, grabbed a wrench, plus went back inside to face the Heat Pump Horror. Bob was victorious after a fierce battle. He had successfully vanquished the machine plus saved the day. He did, however, learn an important lesson, never meddle with a heat pump unless you know what you are doing. As a result, the Heat Pump Horror legend lives on as a cautionary tale for any heating plus A/C professional who dares to play with fire. Bob should’ve remembered the monster film more clearly or he wouldn’t have taken this approach.

The air filter was blocked with debris

Bob was a heating plus A/C professional who prided himself on his air filter adjusting skills! He knew all the ins and outs of air quality plus kept his clients’ systems running like a dream.

But one day, Bob received a call from the owner of the city’s best restaurant.

The owner was in a panic. The restaurant had been plagued by a strange odor that smelled of dust, and it was driving away clients. Bob arrived at the restaurant, eager to take on the challenge. He sniffed around, and sure enough, the place was rank with the smell of stale air. The air filter was his first suspect, so he pulled it out and diagnosed it. It was so blocked with debris that it looked like a dust bunny had taken up residence. Bob knew he had to act fast. He scurried to his truck plus rummaged through his tools until he found a fresh air filter, but with lightning-fast speed, he swapped out the aged one for the new one and fired up the heating plus A/C system. He stood there, basking in his handiwork, as the cool, fresh air began to circulate. Bob knew he had saved the day. The owner was cheerful, plus Bob basked in the glory of a job well done. Cleanliness mattered, and the restaurant was now back to smelling like a rose. Bob knew he had done the impossible, and the restaurant was soon packed with clients once again. Bob even got a free meal out of the deal, which was the icing on the cake, and from that day on, Bob was known as the air quality king. He had saved the city’s best restaurant plus become a local hero. Whenever someone had a problem with their heating plus A/C system, they knew just who to call.

The heating corporation was losing business

But the “control component thriller” reMEd in people’s minds

In the realm of heating plus A/C, there was a control component that had had enough of being blocked by the heating plus A/C professional, but so it went rogue one day and began messing with the temperature settings in the heating and A/C system, but the heating plus A/C tech could not figure it out, and the heating plus A/C corporation was losing clients left and right since no one wants to be trapped in a sauna or an icebox! In the middle of the day, the control component began to play Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” at full volume. The control component knew it had won when almost everyone began to dance to the beat, but as the beat changed, the temperature rose and fell, and almost everyone began to sweat plus freeze. The heating plus A/C professional was working his tail off attempting to repair the system, plus the heating plus A/C corporation was losing cash abruptly, but then something unregular began to happen. Customers who had before been irritated and discontent began to smile and dance to the beat of the “thriller dance.” The heating plus A/C dealer’s executives noticed what was going on plus decided to join in on the fun. They danced with their clients, and the control component was overjoyed. I had never before seen so many people grin. The heating plus A/C professional eventually adjusted the system, plus the temperature stabilized. But the “control component thriller” reMEd in people’s minds. Clients began to return, and the heating and A/C corporation became known for its ability to make an unpleasant situation enjoyable. Therefore, the next time your control component acts up, instead of getting furious, try dancing! You never know what type of joy you are going to have.

Looking for an HVAC provider

My husband and I moved our family from the deep south to the far north because of a job promotion. The opportunity for a much higher salary, better health benefits and upward mobility was too good to pass up. However, we are all a bit nervous about facing the cold weather. As soon as we settled into our new home, I started searching for a reputable HVAC contractor. I wanted to be sure our furnace was going to be able to handle demand, operate reliably and not overly deplete the budget. I was interested in having the heating system inspected and also hoping to sign up for a maintenance plan. I read customer reviews and researched online for a nearby company that upholds an A+ Better Business Bureau Rating. I looked for a factory authorized contractor that is fully licensed, insured and hires NATE-certified technicians. It was important to me that the company provides 24/7 emergency repairs without overtime fees and guarantees satisfaction from their work. Finding an HVAC provider that met all of my criteria, I scheduled an appointment. I was impressed that the technician arrived right on time, wore shoe coverings to avoid creating a mess and was very forthcoming with the findings of his furnace inspection. He was willing to familiarize me with the location of the air filter, safety features and even the set up of the thermostat. We’ve now lived in the north for almost five years. I am still enrolled in a maintenance plan with the same HVAC company, and I’ve had no problems with the furnace.

Benefits of a ductless mini split system

There are a lot of unique benefits to a ductless system for temperature control.

The equipment is compact, versatile and installs without requiring renovation or causing a mess.

The system consists of a single outdoor compressor that links by way of a conduit to a single or up to eight indoor air handlers. The conduit houses the refrigerant, electrical and drainage lines and requires only a three-inch hole in an exterior wall. Because of extensive line lengths, there is freedom of location for the air handlers. They can be mounted up high on the wall, down near the floor or into a drop ceiling and are especially unobtrusive. The air handlers operate quietly and each include an independent thermostat for the ultimate in zone control. There’s the ability to customize room-by-room temperature according to personal preference, requirements of the space and occupancy. It’s possible to adjust fan speed and determine the direction of airflow. These systems effectively handle humidity control and help to filter out air contaminants. Modern ductless models include inverter technology, making them especially environmentally friendly and energy efficient. The operation allows the equipment to automatically adjust speed according to changing indoor demands, using the exact amount of energy necessary to maintain ideal temperature. Along with very consistent comfort, it minimizes running costs. Modern ductless units are especially powerful, easily handling extremely hot summer conditions as well as especially cold winter conditions. Plus, the operation is wonderfully safe, clean and quiet. The system simply moves existing heat between the indoors and outdoors, rather than burning fossil fuels.

Rooftop HVAC

Keeping up with filter changes for furnace and AC

I am very conscientious about the upkeep of important household appliances and systems.

  • I make sure to drain the water heater every year to minimize the buildup of sediment.

I schedule professional dryer vent cleaning to reduce the risk of fire, maximize the unit’s efficiency and extend its service life. Along with enrolling into a maintenance plan with a local HVAC company for the furnace and air conditioner, I make sure to change the filters every month. The air filter serves as a barrier between contaminants and the inner workings of the heating and cooling units. Once the filter becomes dirty and clogged, dust and other pollutants get inside the system, settle on components and restrict airflow. The furnace and air conditioner are required to run longer and more often. Operation consumes more energy, causes higher utility bills and increases the risk of malfunction. A furnace or air conditioner that runs with a dirty filter won’t provide as effective temperature control and won’t last as long. There’s also the risk of contaminated indoor air quality, which can be blamed for all sorts of health concerns. When the heating and cooling system was initially installed, I worried that replacing the air filters would be a difficult and time-consuming task. I’ve since realized that the job takes less than a minute. I turn two tiny levers to open the access panel. I remove the old filter, slide a new one into place and close the panel. I buy the filters at the local hardware store. They aren’t all that expensive. I make sure to keep a supply of filters on hand and have set a reminder on my phone so that I never forget.

Looking into new furnace options

Over the past couple of winters, I’ve needed to schedule repairs for my furnace.

Although the issues have been fairly minor, the cost has started to add up. I’m concerned that the heating system is going to fail during blizzard conditions, when the outside temperature is in the negative digits, and be too costly to fix. Since the heating system is over fifteen years old, I think it’s time to replace it. The monthly utility bills have gotten steadily higher, and I’m not totally satisfied with comfort. I’m suspicious that the furnace is to blame for the frequent need to dust and vacuum as well as problems with headaches, coughing and sneezing. I’ve been looking into the furnaces currently on the market. Although the top-of-the-line systems are plenty expensive, they offer up to 98% AFUE ratings. These advanced units feature adaptable-speed technology, allowing automatic adjustment of output to match the needs of the home. By running at lower capacity, the furnace trims running costs, maintains more consistent comfort and does a better job of filtering out contaminants. There are also fewer concerns with insufficient humidity. Modern furnaces are much quieter, safer and more environmentally friendly. Rather than be left with no heat and in a rush to get a new heater installed, I plan to schedule replacement over the summer. I’ve already spoken with a local HVAC contractor and arranged an appointment for a free estimate. I want to find out more about options such as zone control. I am willing to spend more to minimize carbon footprint and monthly expenses.
